(12 pts.) Lucy can make either 30 boxes of chocolate or 10 loaves of bread in a week if she devotes all of her time to the one or the other. She can also make combinations of the two goods at a constant opportunity cost, so her production possibilities curve is a straight line. Ricky can make either 16 boxes of chocolate or 8 loaves of bread if he devotes all his time to the one or the other, or combinations of the two goods at a constant opportunity cost. He also has a linear production possibilities curve, therefore. Graph each person’s production possibility curve. Also write the equation for each. Identify the opportunity cost of chocolate and bread for Lucy. Do the same for Ricky. Who has the comparative advantage in chocolate? Why? Who has the comparative advantage in bread? Why? Who has the absolute advantage in each good and why? Suppose that they are each self-sufficient – they don’t trade with each other. Lucy produces and consumes 15 boxes of chocolate and 5 loaves of bread per week, while Ricky produces and consumes 12 boxes of chocolate and 2 loaves of bread per week. Show for each person that these combinations are on the production possibility curves of each. Suppose we allow trade. Let each person specialize in producing the good in which they have a comparative advantage. Describe the range of possible trades of chocolate for bread that will allow both to consume more of both goods than they are currently consuming. Pick one such trade and explain how it is mutually beneficial. Verify that the terms of trade-chocolates per loaf of bread-lie between Lucy and Ricky’s respective opportunity costs of bread.

It represents the next step in providing meaningful support to our creatives in ensuring that they earn from their creations and abilities.” Miss Grange informed that the Council has been charged with establishment of a digital distribution and promotion platform for Jamaican music, video and fashion, a Kingston Creative Media Village for increased visibility and accessibility of creative practitioners, a Creative Skills Council and a Culture and Creative Industries Fund for Jamaica. The minister said recent successful nominations of reggae music of Jamaica to the intangible cultural heritage list of UNESCO, the Blue and John Crow Mountains to the world heritage list and the current bid for Port Royal to be inscribed on same list should be seen as government facilitating and creating opportunities for people to lift themselves using cultural and physical assets. She noted that government has been investing in preparing Jamaicans to benefit from economic activities that will come with these inscriptions and added that several economic opportunity workshops are being staged in communities close to a designated, nominated or soon to be nominated site for world heritage list inscription. Miss Grange said that the island’s creative and athletic talents have done well on the world stage and that it is a priority of government to ensure that earnings are realised. She also said that many Jamaicans have been able to use cultural and creative industries to move from poverty to prosperity. These industries, also known as the ‘orange economy’, include activities such as architecture, audiovisual arts, digital services, fashion, graphic and industrial designs, handicrafts, music and software. In 2012, the global income generated from the orange economy was estimated at US$547 billion. Patterson, C. (2019, June 20). Government continues to advance cultural and creative industries.
