Problems in human services organizations do not arrive in labeled packages with clear instructions on how to solve them. It is up to human services administrators to identify problems and strategies to address them. It is important to consider the steps or actions those human services administrators can take to address problems. It is also important to consider what an administrator can do to prevent problems from occurring initially. For this Assignment, view the “Structural Framework: Authority and Supervision” video and select a problem in human services articulated by one of the human services administrators. As you listen to the video, think about the responsibilities of human services administrators in solving problems. Consider how the administrators used supervision and/or authority to address the problem. Finally, consider whether the administrator might have prevented the problem. The assignment (23 pages): Briefly identify the human services administrator you selected from this weeks video. Describe the problems associated with the administrator you selected. Describe the responsibilities of the human services administrator related to the problem he or she outlined in the Roundtable Discussion. Explain how the administrator used authority and/or supervision to address problems in his or her organization. Explain whether the administrator might have prevented the problem outlined in the Roundtable Discussion and why or why not. Share an insight about the role of human services administrators in preventing and addressing problems in human services organizations. Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. Incorporate what you’ve learned about Iraq in this module and answer each of the following questions in at least one complete paragraph. In which respect does Iraq have very shallow roots as a nation? Explain how this feature has constituted an obstacle to the country’s political and economic development? How were Saddam Hussein and the men around him able to create and sustain such a powerful regime, especially after all the setbacks during the two decades before the 2003 war? 3 pages, use detail, site addtional sources Reference: Hauss, C. (2015). Comparative Politics: Domestic Responses to Global Challenges, 9th Edition. [Bookshelf Ambassadored]. Retrieved from https://ambassadored.vitalsource.com/#/books/9781305161757/ The state of Iran is complex and hard to understand especially if you are not from Iran. For the West, the Iranian revolution is still tied tightly to the seizure of the American Embassy and Americans in Tehran, but much political change is going on in Iran even while the old revolutionaries cling to power. It is important to study these contemporary events; it is equally important to try to grasp Iranian theocracy and Khomeini’s theocratic model. Islam itself is diverse and one should never generalize about what it is like. For instance, why did Iran and Iraq, both Muslim countries, fight a bitter war for so many years? And, if Sunnis and Shiites are expected to work together in a new Iraqi government, why isn’t that an issue in Iran? Other questions: What are the Islamic charitable foundations and why do they control so much economic activity? Why do some say they weaken the government? How can state capitalism include such a powerful privately owned small business sector? While studying Iran, prepare to make comparisons with other Third World countries. There are useful political-economic parallels with Nigeria to examine, patron-client systems to compare with Mexico, difficulties liberalizing the economy on a par with India’s difficulties. As much as Iranians and Iraqis have their unique identities and histories, there are similar patterns of authoritarian rule and secular-religious divides in the two countries. In the evolving politics of a new Iraqi state, it seems that attempts to gain power have more often been made with bombs than guns. Saddam Hussein especially seemed to assert his power through force. And that pattern continues. But behind the scenes that journalists can see, from the safety of the Green Zone or the heavily guarded hotels, other kinds of politics have been going on. What you can work hard to see, amidst the carnage left by partisan bombers, is the truth and reality behind the political actors, the political ideas, and the political methods that form the basis for news coming out of Iraq. When you studied conflict in China, you probably recognized factional politics within the Communist Party. Is it really outlandish to suggest that there are politics within the Iraqi state? Are there parallels between Iraqi and Iranian politics? Current News As always, be sure to catch up on today’s news of this module’s country – Iraq. Check any websites recommended in your textbook. Summarize a brief policy that would help an organization like the one in Illegal Hiring make sound and legal hiring decisions within the framework of the law and support a culture of diversity and inclusion. Illegal Hiring Incident 2 The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) prohibits U.S. companies from bribing foreign officials; yet, the number of violations each year is staggering. Some violations center on the use of unethical HR practices. For example, the banking industry has been investigated for its internship and full-time employment hiring practices. The Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (BNY Mellon) gave internships to family members of foreign government officials. The banks leadership intended to maintain or increase business with a Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund. Internship programs are legal and BNY Mellon has a legitimate internship program, but these internships were awarded outside the accepted procedures and criteria used in its program. The U.S. SEC issued a cease-and-desist order, stating that Delivering them [internships] was seen by certain relevant [bank] employees as a way to influence the officials decisions. This is the first cease-and-desist order of which internship hiring was the subject. Phillip Bezanson, a Bracewell & Giuliani Law LLP (firm) partner stated that the concept of anything of value under the FCPA can be really abstract.. . . Please analyze the following scenario: Scenario: Patient Lucy made an appointment to see her primary care practitioner. Her chief complaint was intermittent abdominal pain, about weekly. She had already tried cutting back on coffee from three cups a day to one cup with no success in reducing these episodes. During her encounter with the physician she had interactions with several employee types: Identified herself and registered at the check-in desk. Was roomed and had vital signs taken by the Medical assistant. Repeated her chief complaint for the record. Reviewed her printed medication list to confirm its accuracy and completeness. Had the physician take her history and conduct the physical exam. Physician found no palpable abdominal abnormalities. Physician inquired briefly about patient’s diet. Lab tech performed analysis per physician order: Chemistry, including triglycerides and cholesterol. Physician reviewed blood work and concluded high triglycerides were present. Physician conducted more in-depth questioning on patient’s diet. Determined that Lucy was engaging in weekly “binges” on high volume of milk chocolate with abdominal pain approximately 24 hours after binging. You are the administrator and youve established a new liaison position called the Patient Care Executive (PCE). The concept was meant to be a win-win: patients and their families would get a better, more personalized hospital experience, while doctors could spend less time managing patients and more time practicing medicine. Customer satisfaction scores, patient retention, and referrals are all up, but the doctors have been complaining that the PCEs are incompetent and intrusive. The CEO has gotten wind that the PCEs are a factor in the hospitals high doctor turnover and is trying to decide whether to get rid of the role altogether. Report Issue reply to the students’ response and not the question in 150 words minimum and provide 1 reference. Respond to the students response as though you are talking to them, use name question- Read the following hypothetical. Using your issue-spotting skills, analyze the potential exposure to liability of the Accounting Firm based on the actions of the Partnership Review Committee. Anne is an accountant at a large Accounting Firm. She applied for Partner, but was denied. In their report, the all-male Partnership Review Committee stated that Anne would have a better chance at making Partner if she wore makeup, jewelry, and acted more femininely. Over the past 10 years with the Firm, Anne has received excellent performance evaluations and recently secured a $10M client for the Firm. Instructions: Please write in essay format. Include the guidance below in your analysis: a) Set forth the federal statute and/or theories of law that are applicable. b) Identify the legal issue(s) that exist and claims that may be brought based on the facts of the case. c) Apply the facts of the case to the elements of the law/theories of law. d) Cite a case in the text which is on point with the scenario, or compare and contrast with a case in the text. e) Provide an action item agenda of specific objectives you would recommend implementing in order to prevent future exposure to liability. Be specific (e.g., if training is a recommendation, describe the type of training in detail). Students response The federal statute that is applicable to Annes case is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It states that it is an unlawful employment practice for an employer to limit, segregate, or classify his employees or applicants for employment in any way which would deprive or tend to deprive any individual or employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affects his status as an employee, because of such individuals race, color, religion, sex, or national origin (Bennett-Alexander & Hartman 2019). The accounting firm became liable for discrimination once they denied her of partner and said she has a better chance at making partner if she wore more makeup, jewelry, and acted more femininely. The firm violated the federal statue on the basis of sex. Gender stereotyping is defined as an overgeneralization of characteristics, differences and attributes of a certain group based on their gender. Chapter VII and state fair-employment practice laws regarding gender cover prohibit the use of gender as the basis to any decision. Annes case can be compared to Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins. Same scenario; female denied promotion and she sued under Title VII for sex discrimination. The district court found that Price Waterhouse did discriminate against Hopkins. In order to prevent future exposure to liabilities the organization must take the necessary steps to create and push for change. I would implement training on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, to provide a solid foundation for the organization to build upon. References Bennett-Alexander, D., & Hartman, L. P. (2019). Intercultural Communication Paper (25 points) Outcome 3- Due Week 3 This assignment demonstrates your critical thinking skills as well as your intercultural communication competency. It consists of two parts: Part 1: Complete the INCA survey and develop a one-page reflection summarizing your ideas and your results. Include your Intercultural Competence Score Sheet. Do not limit your summary to a restatement of the survey results; those will be apparent on the included score sheet. Reflect on why you scored as you did in each of the assessment categories, whether you agree with your results, and how you plan to use those insights. Part 2: Select three (3) critical incidents from the list of eight provided below and analyze each incident using the cultural dimensions studied in class. Your job is to identify which cultural dimensions or values are influencing the situation. This is very important: you are not being asked to judge who is right and wrong in the scenarios. Your task is to analyze why the people involved see the same situation differently. What are the cultural differences that cause them to interpret the same set of facts from a different perspective? Each analysis should contain at least three (3) scholarly references for a total of nine references. You may use course materials that pertain directly to the incident and you may add others from your research. Your analysis should be complete and supported by the literature, not an opinion. You will be evaluated on how well you can form an argument, that is, present a statement and support it with credible sources. Complete both parts in a formal written paper using APA format. Use headings to mark each part: Part 1 and Part 2. Use subheadings to indicate the discussion of each critical incident. Include the number of the incident but do not repeat the text. Please review the requirements for all written assignments on page 3 of the syllabus. INCA is an acronym for Intercultural Competency Assessment. American Plastics had fared rather worse than its competitors during the economic downturn. With revenue, quality, and productivity down, management set several goals to reverse the company’s fortune. One area in need of improvement was human resources and “Janet,” the newly appointed HR Director faced a daunting challenge: to quickly re-invent the Human Resources function, reposition it a strategic partner to the business, and improve employee perceptions of her department. Her predecessor retired after leading a major reduction in force causing a significant exodus of key talent, some unexpected. Janet was charged with finding a way to retain top talent and develop a steady but highly-qualified stream of candidates to fill regular as well as critical positions. The CEO agreed with her that differentiating the human resources function was essential for the company’s strategic plan to succeed. In her first two weeks on the job Janet discovered: Job descriptions were inconsistent, long but vague lists of high level “duties and responsibilities” and qualifications Job titles didn’t reflect the work people did, used instead as a framework for budgeting and compensation as many were doing unique work requiring different knowledge and skills. Aside from providing a coordinating function, human resources had outsourced recruiting to third parties who presented candidates based on their internet postings and other sources. No matter the level or criticality of the open position, human resources rarely conducted interviews or assessments before or after handing over the third party resumes to the hiring organization and would get involved again only when a candidate was selected. HR’s participation in the onboarding process of new employees was limited to having them attend a half-day orientation session where, between a video and a slide presentation about the company, they filled out benefits-related, payroll, ID and other paper forms. Training and Development (T&D) had largely been outsourced to several companies that provided generic on-line courses. The recent departure of several mission-critical employees disclosed no systematic means of capturing expertise from employees; when they left, their knowledge left with them. The Performance Employee Evaluation Program didn’t align with anything, was viewed by managers and individual contributors alike as a burdensome annual chore that interfered with people’s “real jobs.” The management of talent is one of a handful of strategic services human resources can offer. The decline of traditional HR functions through automation, self-service, and outsourcing demands a “culture change” within human resources: adopt a business focus by an organization still structured largely around benefits administration, time and attendance reporting, labor cost processing, and similar transactional operations. Write a communications plan not to exceed 900 words to support the strategy of American Plastics. Justify why they were important for your strategic HRM planning process. Recommend how to address these considerations. Focus on resolution of the human resource management challenges in order to support operational strategies. Refeneces can only be peer reviewed sources!!!

You made it! Last discussion of the semester! Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it? As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, this is the first opportunity that many of you have had to consider the role of government in your life, and, more specifically, the relationships between the various levels of government, and how those relationships affect your everyday life. In that spirit, I would like you to consider and discuss the following: How do you think your life in particular, and societal life in general, would change/improve/deteriorate if we were somehow to abolish all levels of government, save one, in the United States? In other words, what if we had no state or local government, only a federal government that dealt with all aspects of governing life, from waging war to providing police and fire services? Or if we had no federal or local government, only a singular state government, whichever state you may live in, that did likewise, handling all governmental responsibilities and voluntarily contributing resources to “national” interests, i.e. fighting war? This concept is not as unusual as you might think. Many nations have only a single national government that handles all functions. Some nations have essentially no national government, only a voluntary coordination between “states” within their borders. Going back a little further in time, the concept of “city-states”, wherein there was only local government, and voluntary coordination between localities on important issues, provided similar framework. How do you think that arrangement might translate to the United States in terms of your own well being and/or that of society? Start a New Thread

It is incredibly difficult for a person to know ahead of time what measures they might want taken in the case that they are unable to communicate their wishes for what actions to be taken. There are so many situations that would need to be taken into consideration. It is even more difficult to make that decision for a loved one that you want to survive but you also do not want them to live in a way they would not want to. As a healthcare administrator, I feel that securing advance directives at the time of inpatient registration or emergency care may not be the best time to get that information. In those instances, people are not completely focused on what their actual wants are and are possibly under a lot of stress. I feel that in that moment many people are scared and this is not a decision that should be taken lightly. I feel that people need time to think about these decisions and decide what they would really want. In both the Quinlan and Shiavo cases an advance directive would have been really good things to have. This would take the decision off of the family and if they wish was to terminate life at that point, it may not have put them through the turmoil and pain of court hearings and watching their loved ones being kept alive in such a capacity. The wants and wishes of both of them would have been facilitated. The problem that may have come about is the advance directive may not have given the family time to come to terms with it and decide that it is what the patient wanted. So this could have also caused much turmoil and pain if the family decided to fight it. But in both cases, the patients were not able to fill them out upon arrival. They were also both very young and this tends to not be something that someone that age thinks about seriously. I believe the reasons why patients don’t create such documents include some of the following: being young and healthy and believing that nothing will happen to them fear of making the wrong decision avoidance due to not having all of the facts of what the situation may be I feel that the immediate family should be involved in the decisions, unless there is reason to believe they do not have the patients best interests at heart. I do feel that therapy for those involved should be included as well as the use of the ethics committee. Once all evidence is looked at, and it is decided it is in the patients best interest, then proceed. Self determination is very important. I feel that if there is a point that the patient has expressed his/her wants that it should be recognized and taken into consideration.
